Mr and Mrs Dixon!

Parents and carers will be delighted to know that Mr Dixon, Class 4’s teacher, will be marrying his fiancee, Michelle, tomorrow afternoon.

All of us at school send the fabulous couple our very best wishes for a long and happy marriage – congratulations!!!

Afternoon of celebration at Holy Trinity

The renovation of Holy Trinity Church is complete and there is to be a party to celebrate! Everyone is invited to join Rev Nancy and the wider church family at any time between 2.00 and 4.30pm tomorrow. Our children will be leading community singing at 3.00pm – it’d be great to have lots of our families there at that time.

This is not a church service, it is a celebration with drinks, refreshment and fellowship – see you then!

Mrs Wolfenden

Mrs Carol Wolfenden, our senior midday assistant, retired from school today. Carol has served our school faithfully since May 1990 and has therefore supervised approximately 5100 lunchtimes over 27 years!!

Mrs Wolfenden leaves us with our thanks and very best wishes for a fantastic retirement.

***We still have vacancies for lunchtime assistants – please see Ms de Fraine, Miss Rogerson or Mr Cross for more information.

Open Day

Our annual Open Day for parents and families of children who will be starting school in September 2018 will be held next Thursday 5 October from 9.30 – 11.30am and 1.30 – 3.00pm.

The school will be open to everyone and visitors will have access to all the classes and will be escorted around the school by delightful Y6 volunteers. Mr Cross will be available all day to answer questions that prospective parents here might have.

Please spread the word!

Sports News

Steve Pemberton, our local ECB cricket promotion officer, visited school this morning to present special shirts to our Year 5 (now Year 6) cricket team who had such a successful season last year. The team qualified for the Lancashire finals at Blackpool CC but, unfortunately, the tournament was postponed twice because of bad weather and will not now be held. We’re hopeful that we can repeat this success during this school year.

Our football team competed in the local Lancashire Cup qualifying competition at Lancaster and Morecambe College yesterday afternoon. The team played really well, winning 2 matches and losing 1. Unfortunately, they did not progress to the next round but gave a good account of themselves.

The first round of the SportsHall athletics league was held at Lancaster and Morecambe College sports hall this afternoon. The event will be completed just as this BLS Bulletin is published – let’s hope that they enjoyed themselves and did well … …

Activ8 Ju-Jitsu

On Thursday, Activ8 Ju-Jitsu offered every class a taster session and the children had a lot of fun. Fliers have been sent home to complete if you would like your child to join the club.

World Faith Week

Our original plan was to hold a World Faith Week next week. This has now been moved to the week commencing 13 November 2017.

Class 11

Well done to Class 11 who presented a fabulous play to their parents, families and whole school community. Miss Rogerson’s class really shone!

Many thanks also to Class 11 parents who provided lovely cakes and goodies at this afternoon’s Cake Sale.

Boxes of Hope 2017

It was a pleasure to welcome Eileen from ‘Boxes of Hope (Cumbria)’ into school this morning to promote this year’s shoe box Christmas appeal.

The idea is for children to fill a shoe box with gifts for a very disadvantaged child in parts of Eastern Europe. Many of the children in the communities supported by Boxes of Hope do not receive gifts at Christmas or at all, for that matter. Here at school we want to live our Mission Statement and “reach out to support others” by sending as many filled boxes as possible.

There’s an incentive: our Global Learning Club have decided to give a raffle ticket to every child that brings in a filled shoe box; the tickets will be placed in a raffle and some winners will receive gifts from the Global Learning Club.

Children should have brought a leaflet home that has additional information.

The closing date for receipt of boxes is 6 November – immediately after half-term.
