Celebrations at Holy Trinity …

On Sunday 30 September, Holy Trinity Church will be holding an afternoon of fun and celebration. The recent extensive building improvement works have been completed, the entrance has been re-modelled, the church has been re-decorated and refurbished – all in all, lots to celebrate!

The celebration event (not a church service) will be held from 2.00 – 4.30pm and everyone in the village should receive an invitation through their door soon.

As a school, we have been to contribute in two ways:

  1. A number of children will be representing the changing face of the church over the 100s of years that it has stood in the village. Mr Haworth is co-ordinating this and the children involved will be informed.
  2. Our choir has been asked to sing at the event. Unfortunately, members of staff will not be able to lead the children in singing because of a very important prior commitment. That being said, it would be great if families (with elder and younger siblings in tow) could come to the celebration at 3.00pm to sing together. Some well-known songs will be available and you’ll have the support of some musical people from church. Why not give it a go? It’ll be good fun.

Harvest Festivals

A reminder that the Holy Trinity Church Harvest Festival service will be held on Sunday 24 September, beginning at 10.30am. Children from our Loaves and Fishes group will be leading parts of the service and eveyone is invited.

School Harvest Service

Our school service will take place in Church on Monday 25 September, starting around 9.15am. All the classes will make a contribution to this service of thanksgiving.

Please Note: parents and carers of our new Reception children are invited to go to church after morning registration for coffee and other refreshments. Members of the Church family would love to meet our ‘new’ parents over a warming drink. Parents are then encouraged to stay for the service.

HARVEST COLLECTION: parents and carers are asked to send in items of food and/or household items for the use of the Morecambe Food Bank. The following items would be particularly welcome:

  • fruit juice
  • longlife milk
  • sugar
  • instant mashed potato
  • sponge puddings
  • biscuits
  • coffee
  • pasta sauce

Please send items into school or church and we’ll ensure that all reach the Food Bank as soon as possible.

Welcome to Ms de Fraine

On Monday we will welcome a new addition to the school staff. Ms Roslyn de Fraine will be joining us as our School Business Manager; this is a new post and Ms de Fraine will take responsibility for many aspects of life in school including finance, facilities management, health and safety, income generation etc. Ms de Fraine will also be our ‘front of house person’ alongside Mrs Brocklebank, so parents will soon get to know Ms de Fraine.

Mrs Brocklebank has reduced the amount of time that she will be in school to 2 days per week as she prepares for her planned retirement at the end of this school year.

We know that you will make Ms de Fraine very welcome and be patient with her as she gets used to our ways of doing things!

Extreme reading photos

Many thanks for your amazing ‘extreme reading’ photographs – there really are some fantastic pictures and Miss Rogerson is delighted to see so many boys and girls enjoying their books in amazing locations.

If you have any more photographs, please send them to Miss Rogerson asap. Thanks.

Can you help BLS Brownies?

For 12 years, Rachel and Shelley have been running the 2nd BLS Brownies and both have decided that now is the time to step down and find new leaders.

Here’s a message from them;

“2nd Bolton-le-Sands Brownies are looking for new Owls to run the Unit.  You do not need to have been involved in Girlguiding yourself, or have a teaching or childcare background. You just need a desire to see girls enjoying learning new skills, forging new friendships and growing in confidence.

You will be supported by a Girlguiding Mentor whilst you gain your Warrant.  Please don’t be shy, please step forward. We promise you won’t regret it!

In the absence of new volunteers, the Unit is unlikely to continue. If you feel you may be interested, please have a chat with Shelley Harvey (01524 734765) or Rachel Shaw (01524 732726). Thanks.

School photographer

On Thursday next week, our school photographer will be visiting again to take family and individual photographs. All children will be taken individually and in family groups. Please note: parents / carers with children under school age should bring them along from photos from 8.30am.

This year, the process for choosing and paying for photographs has been streamlined and all processes will be online.

Further information will be given to parents next week.

Wake and Shake will NOT be held next Thursday.

School meals and Year 3 children

As children move from KS1 to KS2 and into our Y3 classes (Mr Haworth and Miss Liversidge), school lunches are no longer automatically free of charge.

Meals are charged at £2.20 per day for KS2 pupils.

Payment can be made via ParentPay or via the school office – cheques to be payable to ‘LCC’ please.

Families who receive certain benefits may still be entitled to a free meal each day. Please click here to find out more.

The Friends of Bolton-le-Sands School (FOBLES), our PTA, meet regularly to plan and arrange activities that both entertain and raise funds for the school.

Just a reminder of some of the things that the FOBLES have recently paid for / supported:

  • Infant fun swimming sessions
  • the texting service
  • a new stage
  • new digital lighting for the hall and high quality radio microphones
  • a new climbing frame
  • sports kits
  • theatre subsidies
  • the Life Education Centre
  • lots of little extras!

All the staff are extremely grateful to the FOBLES because we know how beneficial the funding is and also, how much fun our families have at events like the Evening of Family Fun, Beetle Drives, discos etc.

The FOBLES’ AGM, and first committee meeting, will be held in The Royal Hotel, BLS, next Thursday evening at 7.00pm. Please try to come along to find out more about how you might be able to help – and have a lot of fun doing so.
