Open Day and school admissions

It was great to welcome a good number of prospective parents into school yesterday. The Y6 children who escorted our visitors were excellent ‘ambassadors’ and, as usual, a great advertisement for our school.

Incidentally, the ‘window’ for application for school places for September 2018 is now open. Please click here to access further information from LCC.

Please take note …

There are a couple of serious matters that we would like to remind you about and all of us at school would welcome your co-operation:

Parking and access to school

We have received a visit from the Police following a number of formal complaints over the last few weeks concerning irresponsible and illegal parking on Bolton Lane (outside school) and on the main street through the village. There have also been comments about insensitive driving and parking in and around the Community Centre car park. It is clear to the large majority of our school community that a relatively small number of road users are creating serious safety issues for other people in the wider community.  If you have to use a car to bring your child to and from school, please park in a sensible and legal place where you know that you are not causing an obstruction. There are a lot of parking places on the road along from Holy Trinity Church as well as in other parts of the village – please use these and then walk up to school. Please actively consider how your driving and parking behaviours impact on the well-being of other people. Thank you.

Dogs on the school grounds

With the exception of assistance animals, dogs are not allowed on the school grounds. This is a Lancashire County Council ruling and is put in place to keep all members of the school community safe. This ruling includes puppies and ‘toy’ breeds who sometimes are carried into school in bags and the like.  The main railings at the front of school are part of the grounds and dogs must not be left tied there whilst parents collect their children. Thank you for your understanding.

News from Holy Trinity

‘Raise the Roof, Open the Door’ celebration

Last Saturday afternoon a large number of people attended Holy Trinity’s celebration following the completion of building works to maintain the fabric of the church and improve access for all people. The church is freshly decorated and looks fabulous!  It was great for children from the school (and their parents and family members) to be involved in the celebrations as the parish looks forward to a bright future.

First Friday Service

The latest in the series of ‘First Friday’ special services will be held this evening at 7.00pm. The theme is “Celebration and Conkers!” and it promises to be a lovely service with the usual food and fellowship to conclude the service. Why not go along and take a friend?

Sports and Dance news

Athletics

Our indoor athletics team competed last Friday at Lancaster and Morecambe College and performed really well, winning the event. There will be a number of additional events over the winter and we hope we can replicate this success, well done team!

Football

Our Year 3 and Year 4 football teams competed at a tournament held at Heysham High School yesterday.  Both teams played with real skill and enthusiasm and in the end our Year team qualified for the Silver group and our Year 4 team qualified for the Gold group, eventually ending as champions!  Woohoo!!

Activ8 Ju-Jitsu

Instructors from Activ8 were in school yesterday afternoon to offer a taster session to all the children in our Reception classes. The children had a lovely time and learned a few new skills.

Blue Moose Dance Company

Dance teachers from Blue Moose Dance Company are working alongside our Year 1 and Year 2 classes (Classes 3, 4 and 5) developing dances based on a Katie Morag theme. We’re hopeful that a wonderful dance performance will be the result … watch this space!

FOBLES’ BEETLE DRIVE

A family Beetle Drive will be held in the school hall on Friday after school. This is a family fun event that is likely to appeal to families of the younger children in school. We’ll keen on beetling ’til around 4.45 – 5.00pm.
