Government Message:

Following the Government’s message that schools ‘may be in a position to begin to open on 1 June’, we have been working incredibly hard to produce a risk assessment to ensure children and staff will be as safe as possible if we were to open to more pupils. Developing control measures which minimise the risk to pupils and staff is proving very difficult as social distancing is virtually impossible in a school setting, especially for younger children and even more so with a rapid increase in numbers. School remains open to vulnerable children and children of key workers and we are continuing to make plans for opening to more pupils when we are satisfied it is safe to do so. We will keep you informed as changes and decisions are made.

Key Worker Provision:

School continues to accept children of key workers between 9:00am and 3:30pm. Over half-term, this provision will be available on Tuesday 26 May, Wednesday 27 May and Thursday 28 May. The school kitchen will be closed on these days so all children will need a packed lunch. Monday 25 May is a Bank Holiday and school will be closed. School will also be closed on Friday 29 May to allow for a complete deep clean and further preparations towards the possible phased reopening.

From next week, we will be implementing some small changes to our key worker provision to ensure children are as safe as possible in our school, reflecting the steadily growing numbers. We are no longer allowing children to bring their bags to school: they only need a water bottle, coat (if necessary) and a packed lunch in a hard-surfaced container that can be easily cleaned at home.

If you are a key worker and your situation at home has changed resulting in you requiring this provision (and no one in your household is shielding) please contact Mr Hargreaves for further advice:

Home Learning:

Bolton-le-Sands staff continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver a high-quality programme of home learning for your children. Once again, well done to you all for accessing this as much as you can and staying in touch via email. New home learning sheets are available on the website from a Monday, along with a video of your child’s class teacher. Google Classroom continues to be accessible for our Y5/6 children: feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from parents and pupils. Because of this, from Monday 1 June, we will be trialling Google Classroom for our Y3/4 children – please look out for login details and instructions towards the end of next week.

Our Facebook page continues to be invaluable during these difficult times: it gives children the chance to engage in a range of activities and to see staff members (almost) face-to-face. Friday shout outs continue to be a success. Next week, these will be live from Mr Martin’s house at 3pm on Friday 22 May – please send any shout outs to On Monday 18 May, at 10:00am, Mrs Squires will be delivering a child-friendly workout on Facebook live – all you need is a cereal box!

Best wishes from all the Bolton-le-Sands Family!
