COULD YOU BE A FOUNDATION GOVERNOR?

As we are a Church School, 8 Members of the Governing Body are appointed through Holy Trinity and St Mark’s, so that the Church always has majority representation on the Board. At the moment, we have a vacancy for a Foundation Governor, and we are hoping to recruit someone who would be prepared to help ensure that the Christian ethos of the school is preserved and developed.

The Role of a Foundation Governor

All School Governors work together as part of a team to ensure that the school has a clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction. Governors have a responsibility to ensure that the financial resources of the school are managed effectively.

In addition, Foundation Governors must ensure that :

• The Christian ethos of the school is preserved and developed;
• The school provides an appropriate act of collective worship every day for all children;
• The school uses an appropriate RE syllabus
• The school and church work together

All Governors are involved in the appointment of the Headteacher and Deputy Head teacher. Relevant training is available to all Governors.

Time Commitment

There is a termly meeting of the full Governing Body. In addition, Governors are expected to join one of the Governing Body’s Committees, which also meet once a term. Governors may also be invited to join a subcommittee for a particular purpose, or to become a link Governor with a curriculum area.

All Governors are invited to undertake a skills audit, so that the skills and knowledge they bring to the Governing Body may be best used, and any training needs identified.

Eligibility

• You must be over 18
• You cannot hold another Governorship at the same school (eg as a Parent Governor)
• You must not be bankrupt, or be disqualified under the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986
• You must not be disqualified by the Charity Commission from being a charity trustee or other trustee
• You must not be disqualified from working with children (all Governors must undergo full DBS disclosure)
• You must not have served a prison sentence of 3 months or more in the previous 5 years.
• You must not have been fined for causing a nuisance or disturbance on school premises within the previous 5 years.

The PCC of Holy Trinity and St Mark’s would prefer to appoint Foundation Governors from amongst its parishioners, and would hope that applicants would be regular attenders at any of the church’s services.
