The Magic of Compost, Thursday 12th June

 Compost Talk with Q and A session- 2:30-3:30pm

 As part of Great Big Green Week, Bolton-le-Sands Library is hosting a talk on composting with Diana McIntyre, Community Composting Coordinator at the FoodFutures Closing Loops project.
Come along and learn about compost with this talk run by Diana from Closing Loops Community Composting, a project run by FoodFutures, North Lancashire’s Sustainable Food Network.

Find out about:

  • What is compost and why you should compost?
  • How to compost well? – What are the benefits of composting?
  • What is community composting?

With a question and answer session after the talk for troubleshooting and curiosity, learn how to save money and stop food waste going into landfill and how to create a valuable resource out of food and garden waste.

Use digital microscopes to explore what compost is made from and which living creatures are important and living in the compost bin. See the ‘Bury Your Pants’ display and learn how to gauge how healthy your soil is by burying an old pair of pants.

Closing Loops Community Composting project is about creating a composting network for North Lancashire to encourage community composting and making it accessible to everyone. They spread composting awareness and teach key skills and knowledge to pass on to the community.
