Lunesdale Trefoil Guild Annual Report for 2020
2020. What a year! One I’m sure we would all like to forget but will always
At the beginning of January an invitation from Morecambe Division to a meal at
Ricky’s was enjoyed by all who went.
The following morning five of our members helped at the Silverdale Coffee
Morning to raise funds for the Guide Silver Sapling Camp Site by manning a
variety of stalls. I was on the cake stall and never having done this before it was
a very steep learning curve. By the end of the morning I‘d managed to get the
hang of putting cakes into bags without squashing them! A grand total £593.83
was raised by the many willing helpers.
At our Annual General Meeting all our officers were willing to stand again and
were duly elected. Our guest speaker was Pat Ascroft. She spoke of how
honoured she was to receive an MBE for her charity fund raising. The
presentation was done by Lord Shuttleworth, Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire at
the Shire Hall in Lancaster Castle. As usual Pat gave us a humorous talk full of

February’s meeting was about local dialects and sayings which led to a lively
discussion. The evening didn’t start well as our hostess had forgotten that we
were going! However it was all dealt with in a proper Guiding manner and she
and her son soon had us organised!
Sadly three of our members passed away this year. Jean Woodward, Margaret
Coward and Sheila Brotherton, we will miss them all.
Then came the corona virus. A new language appeared, lockdown, social
distancing, self-isolating, shielding, briefings, bubbles and confusion! What can
we do or not do? All meetings cancelled, no coffee mornings, no Gala, no lunch
out, no Christmas party, no cake, tea and chat to end our monthly
meetings….how I have missed it!
County, however, continue to send us newsletters. The content is less but
relevant information is still passed on. The STAR programme was encouraged , a
series of challenges for members to complete and lots of ideas to try. I was full
of good intentions but I am no nearer a STAR now than I was then!
Two small gifts were delivered to members. The first was a little tea break bag
complete with teabag, kit kat, quiz and pencil with an owl topper. The second a
small Christmas gift with a Tunnocks Teacake disguised as a Christmas pudding,
hot chocolate and a home made scratch card, the winner of which received a box
of chocolates! Thank you to Pat for all the ideas and work in putting these
I have sent newsletters to keep you all up to date throughout the year and I will
continue to do so. It is good to hear all that you have been doing too so please
keep in touch. Hopefully our meetings will be able to begin again in
2021.….there will be lots to talk about!
Take care, stay safe
