Many charities are appealing for help to meet the current crisis in Afghanistan. Susan Rae, who regularly reports on the work of ‘Buttons and Bows’ has sent this information about another charity which works in a similar way to Buttons and Bows, and how it is responding to the crisis.

I am sure we have all been touched by the sight of men, women and children traumatised in Afghanistan. I received the ‘Goods for Good’ Newsletter that I am passing on to you. We teamed up with this group two years ago, run by Rosalind Bluestone. Goods for Good have proved themselves to be a trust worthy charity who get to disasters areas quickly with the right aid. I am just passing on the information, if you want to act in helping in any way please do it independently, direct with Goods for Good. As the Government announced the new ‘Afghan Citizens’ Resettlement Scheme’ which aims to resettle 5,000 people from Afghanistan in its first year, our small team wasted no time turning our thoughts for these refugees into concrete action. We are now in the process of sorting and packing over 2000 bags of donations so they are ready to be delivered, via our network of charity partners, locally and nationally to those in need.
We’ve had an overwhelming response from our community, keen to find out how they can help us respond to and support the Afghan refugees as they arrive, so we have detailed below the different ways you can help support our work.
Please be aware we are not currently taking donations of clothes toys or books at this time.

 DONATE TOILETRIES
It can be difficult to imagine what it must feel like to have nothing but the clothes you stand up in, to not have the money or means to access basics such as shampoo, toothpaste and shower gel, but this is a reality for many of the people we support. Through our For Common Good wish list you can donate the toiletries and hygiene goods we need. We are currently running low on the following items (new and unused); nappies, underwear and socks, baby wipes, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, shaving foam and razors. Please donate to our emergency fund today. This special reserve will help us respond quickly to SOS appeals, such as the conflict in Afghanistan and the earthquake in Haiti. Your donations will help provide the desperately needed funds to cover our operations, so that we’re able to deliver what’s needed to those most in need. Without this financial support there is a limit to what we can achieve.
