The local council refused permission for the development of 200 homes on Lapwing Fields Green belt land. The planning department and developer argued the land was grey belt, the Councillors maintained the land still served green belt purposes.
0ver 100 locals came to the meeting to show their love of their green belt, the room upstairs reached capacity and others stayed in the foyer. We had many speakers all delivering impassioned arguments. Councillor Budden commented that he had not received one e mail or communication that was in favour of developing our green belt. Barrie Wells MBE said that we would lose precious green belt for absolutely no benefit.
It is true the District needs housing but building here would not provide the truly affordable homes that are needed. Hundreds of properties lie vacant and brownfield and previously allocated sites are not built out from years ago.
It is likely the developers will appeal and another developer of pursuing the Slyne side of the green belt. Our fight to defend this precious green space continues.
We are low on funds as legal help is expensive, if every one that so loved this land would just give a little it would make a huge difference to defending this precious space, This is a real community effort, we can do something really significant that will secure the security of the local community for years to come.
