Hello everyone.
You may ask why someone chooses to be baptised as an adult, and for me it’s because faith hasn’t been something that happened all at once. It’s been a journey.
Looking back now, I can see that God was gently guiding me, even before I realised it. There were moments when a door opened, a path changed, or the right people came into my life. Looking back, I can see He was gently leading me all along – to my husband, to our boys, and eventually to this village of Bolton-le-Sands, where we found ourselves living right opposite this church.
Over the years this church has become part of our family’s story. We were married here, our children have grown up here, and every time I’ve walked through these doors, it felt a little like pressing the pause button. In a busy week filled with parenting, work, school, clubs and everything else that fills our diaries, this became a place where I could be still and slowly discover what it means to follow Jesus’s example.
For the children here today, one of the songs we sang earlier says that God is our lighthouse. I love that picture. A lighthouse doesn’t make the storm disappear, but it shines a light so you know which way to go. That’s what faith has become for me. It doesn’t mean life is always easy, but it gives me hope, direction and reminds me that God is always with us.
Today, my boys and I are choosing to be baptised together because we want to keep following that light. We want to keep learning to live as Jesus taught us – with kindness, courage, forgiveness and love. And just as Jesus asks us to let our light shine, I hope our family can bring a little more light into our community too.
