New Bishop of Blackburn is announced.

Our own Bishop Philip was introduced as Bishop-elect of Blackburn by Bishop Jill at a series of joyous gatherings on Tuesday; following the approval of his nomination by His Majesty The King.

video marking the special moment was issued to the Diocese and County. Bishop Philip says: “I believe with all my heart that God has called me to carry Jesus across Lancashire, to bear witness to his love and peace here in this county. I have done that for the past eight years as Bishop of Burnley, and I will go on doing that as Bishop of Blackburn. I am delighted to be staying in a county that I love very deeply indeed, delighted also that we will be able to carry on the work here in Blackburn Diocese.”

Setting out a clear future focus …

The three settings for the announcement day were specially chosen to reflect Bishop Philip’s personal vision for Lancashire:

  • Prayerful focus on the growth of joyful and vibrant Christian communities
  • Tackling social injustice and financial hardship
  • Develop opportunities for children and young people in Lancashire and place them at the ‘heart of everything we do’

We were pleased to welcome Bishop Philip to Holy Trinity when he was Bishop of Burnley, and came to lead services for us during the interregnum.
